Types of device drivers

All the various types of computers whether it is a desktop computer or a laptop use different devices for several reasons. Below are some of the common devices or device drivers which are being used by the computers.
CD / DVD – All the computers these days come with the DVD or CD drive, these drives normally allow the user to install various software’s, view movies, burn the data to the rewritable DVD or CD and listening to music.

Motherboard or BIOS – BIOS or basic input output system is one kind of software which exists in the chip situated on the motherboard and contains codes that are used to control several devices like disk drives, mouse, keyboard and other functions.

Game Controller – These are devices that are connected to your computer or a gaming console for using video games. For instance, steering wheels and joysticks.

Digital Camera – These devices are being used to take photos and are stored in some form. These devices are then connected to your computers by using a serial cable or a USB port to download these pictures.

Hard Disk Controller – These controllers are said to be interfaces or circuits which allow your operating system to organize the hard disk. Latest hard disks usually have in-built hard dick controllers.

Video/Graphic Adapters – These are adaptor cards which are entirely in charge of the performance and appearance of the display. These cards usually process data and information and make calculations about every outputs and color pixels to your computer screen. Most of these graphic cards are available with their own memory and processors for enhanced performance.

Network Adaptors – These devices usually allow the user to connect his personal computer to the network. Different kinds of these devices exist which include wireless network adaptors, PCMCIA cards and PCI Ethernet cards.

ISDN/Modem – ISDN is said to be a digital telephone information network service. These devices usually allow the personal computer to be connected with other computers by utilizing a cable connection, wireless connection or a telephone line. ISDN is said to be a digital telephone information network service. However, it is necessary for the user to have an appropriate type of modem in order to connect their computers.                     
Plotter/Printer/Multi Office – These are important external devices which are usually used for connecting your personal computer to print documents and even graphics. At times these machines even act as copiers, fax machines and scanners.     

Scanner – Scanners are usually used to scan several documents and even pictures into your personal computer. By using OCR software you can easily scan images or text and even edit or run the text in a word processor.

Notebook – These are said to be portable small size personal computers which is available with in-built keyboard, hard drive, rechargeable batteries, pointing device and a folding display. The modern day notebooks are one of the most powerful desktop computers of the new generation.

Removable Drives – These are said to be storage devices which is connected to your personal computer if required. You can utilize these drives to store data and even to get back-up.

Besides, the above mentioned device drivers there are many others which include sound card, tape backup, USB drivers, system devices and so on.
