SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. SATA is a type of interface. Its primary function is transferring the data between motherboard and mass storage devices like optical drives and computer drives inside the computer. It is known that SATA is very quickly replacing older technology like Parallel ATA or Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment.

SATA offers with benefits over older Parallel ATA like faster transfer of data, ability of removal or addition of the devices while operating.
