Maintain sound device drivers

audio card image

Until and unless you are having barebones workstation, the computer would have a soundcard and the speakers. The sound cards would also have the input jacks and headphone jack so that one can plug in headphones and microphones. For all of these features to work in order, small program known to us as sound card driver needs to be installed next to hardware. At the basic stage, sound drivers are mainly responsible for explaining to the Windows what soundcard is probably capable of and how it could control.

If some music CD needs to be played on the CD drive on computer then music would successfully make it to the speakers, you should be happy with audio drivers. After all, music is being played and you can hear. However, the soundcard drivers would be updated on a regular basis by manufacturer of the device by making some improvements and repairing the bugs. The soundcards are quite notorious for causing some problem with the other devices.

As the issues are resolved by manufacturer and are released in form of the updated sound drivers, it is best to update the drivers on a regular basis. It will not just keep the card current but several other features too could be enjoyed.  The soundcard drivers too could be updated in order to accommodate the new operating systems like Windows Vista. For instance, if the existing computer needs to be upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista then you would be required to check the hardware compatibility of the computer. Whether the existing sound card is having driver for the Vista or not needs to be checked. If it does not have then you would be required to wait till a new one is released or simply purchase new soundcard.

The status could be checked on the computer’s sound card simply by going to Device Manager. One can find the Device Manager at the Control Panel. The next you need to do is clicking on the System icon and look for driver. As the Device Manager is opened, a list full of hardware that is on the computer could be found. Then click the speaker icon at ‘Sound, Video and Game Controller’. General tab would list sound card’s name, the manufacturer’s name and the present status. Driver tab would identify audio driver’s version, date, provider and others. In order to update the driver, simply click on Update Driver Button, following prompts for an automatic search.

Note down the driver information like date and the version number and then visit the manufacturer’s site for updated drivers. Make sure tat you are using the current most versions or else update it. Once the audio driver is downloaded, you would be required to install by using the Device Manager’s Update Driver button, unless manufacturer is providing you with some other sound driver updating methods. Just like the sound drivers, all other hardware on the computer needs to be updated regularly.
