Almost everyone must have heard about drivers, but it is important to know what actually are these drivers are and how they work. Basically in computing or computer systems, device drivers or also known as software drivers are computer programs that provide higher level computer applications and programs to easily interact with other hardware devices like your keyboard, mouse, video board, monitor and several other devices.

The first question that anyone would ask is, how do these device drivers communicate with other devices in the computer. The drivers basically communicate with the other devices through the computer bus. This can also go through the communications subsystem where the hardware is connected. However in case when any application or program raise a routine in the driver then the driver will generally send some commands to the devices. This command can differ from one device to another and even according to the driver. After the devices have received the commands they often send it back to the driver. When they have this data the driver can generally call routines in the original application or program. Here you should note that the drivers will depend on the hardware and they are also specific to the type of operating system.

Therefore, this basically means that the drivers are also one of the most important parts of the system. When you do not have sufficient or all the drivers none of the above hardware drivers will work properly. You might even assume that your mouse works without any hardware driver. It obviously does use a hardware driver. This is because windows already have pre installed drivers for most of the common hardware and you might not have to install them manually. However this does not mean that windows will have drivers for every hardware device, and apart from this most of the hardware features are generally not available if you have not installed the drivers properly. Therefore, it is always recommended that you install the latest drivers that are available for your hardware if you need to enjoy the best performance of your hardware. You can choose and install the right device drivers for a specific hardware and it is also the most important component of computer system configuration.

Apart from this you should also make sure that you have all the required drivers. If there are any missing drivers then it can cause hardware failures and it will also be very hard to find out the problem. Some of the signs that show you have some drivers that are not working properly are like, malfunctioning of hardware, computer errors, system instability and unresponsive hardware.

Most often people forget to install their network adapter drivers where the windows will also not detect the missing driver physically. Therefore, in order to avoid such situations you should search online for updates. You can find some of the latest drivers through the website of the manufacturer and it is also very easy to download them as they are completely free and easy to use. However, you should remember that you should never download drivers from an unsafe resource as they might contain viruses, spyware and some other type of malicious software.
