ATI Radeon drivers

ATI Radeon Logo

Radeon, established in the year 2000, is said to be a brand of GPU or Graphic Processing Units created by ATI technologies. ATI Radeon has become a leader for manufacturing high-tech graphics cards which have always been included with the latest performance features and graphic innovations. 3D designers and hardcore gamers alike understood that they were able to count on some of the new Radeon graphic processing units for excellent visual effects, technological developments and unique gaming performance. In the year 2006, ATI Radeon was acquired by AMD and preserved the acronym of ATI for most of their products and technologies which include ATI Radeon cards.

Number of different Radeon models exists with several product categories which include budget graphic cards, mainstream graphic cards and high end gaming cards. ATI Radeon graphic processors are even broken into several generations which are based on the DirectX version. R100 is the first generation model which is supported by DirectX7. Few of the other Radeon series include the HyperZ technology. Released under the series of R100, the Radeon 7500 is said to be one of the largest graphic processing units. Some of the other series like the R200 and even R520 adapted the following DirectX versions and included latest technologies.

However, the Radeon R600 was well known since it was the first Radeon card series that supported DirectX 10.0 and even Direct3D 10.0. Few of the other products in this first series even supported DirectX 10.1. The naming method of ATI Radeon is fairly complicated at first glance. But, this method if once understood then it will be easy for you to decide which market section of cards are designed for. For instance, cards issued after the release of HD 3000 series of ATI Radeon uses a naming method where high number digits in the name of the model represents the higher quality cards. The card name Radeon X800 is said to be the high quality card compared to the mainstream X700 card or the budget X300 card. In the same way, HD 2900 card offers additional features and performance compared to HD 2600 mainstream card and the HD 2400 budget card.

Almost like all the hardware tools, these Radeon cards need device drivers for interacting with the personal computer operating system. These Radeon cards are available with a new package of device drivers called as ATI Catalyst. As most of these computer drivers perform their functions without any user interaction, the ATI Catalyst comes with the CCC or Catalyst Control Center where-in all the users can entirely organize their graphic processors of Radeon. For instance, users can usually tweak their Radeon cards for configuring multiple monitors, making adjustments by using in-built wizards and by enhancing performance. These ATI Radeon cards were actually available in the market as high quality cards for all those designers and gamers who needed the best performance graphic cards. The budget and mainstream card models usually offer other users few quality graphic cards with low prices and less features.
